Salsa Bikes Print E-mail

ImageWe've been getting a lot of requests for ready to ride Salsa "bikes". Well... never let it be said that we don't aim to please.

This year, we're offering FIVE (count em'... 5) complete machines from the Salsa crew. Plus an expanded range of framekits...

Casseroll Triple (complete)

Salsa’s Casseroll Triple Complete is our take on a do-it-all road bike, perfect for everything from non-competitive road riding and commuting to credit card touring and charity rides.

An extremely versatile frameset is what makes the Casseroll Triple so…well, versatile.

The frameset is crafted of double-butted Salsa Classico CroMoly tubing for both frame and fork. The steel tubing provides a wonderful balance between comfort and efficiency. Ask around and you won’t find many folks that don’t enjoy the feel of a steel bicycle.

We’ve designed the Casseroll to use long-reach brakes so it accepts very large road tires, up to 700c x 32mm with fenders, and 700c x 37mm without. Large tires add a heap of comfort on rough roads and paths.

Our partially polished, stainless steel, forward-entry horizontal dropouts let you switch up your bike as you like. Run fully geared, singlespeed, or fixed if you like. Finishing touches include fender and rear rack mount braze-ons, and a pump peg.

Casseroll Triple’s spec begins with a nice mix of Shimano parts. 10-speed 105 STI brake/shift levers, front and rear derailleurs, and 30/39/50T triple crankset. Tiagra front and rear hubs are laced to very durable Salsa Delgado Cross rims. Long-reach Tektro 521 AG brakes provide all the necessary stopping power. Continental Contact 32mm tires add some comfort while allowing the included SKS fenders to fight off rainy days and road spray. The WTB Silverado Race saddle with embroidered Salsa logos is both comfortable and good-looking. A painted-to-match Salsa CroMoto stem and silver Moto Ace Short & Shallow bar is the finishing touch.

Casseroll is a road bike meant to deliver outstanding feel and function for normal road riding pursuits, rather than racing. We encourage you to use it for relaxation, exercise, or everyday transportation.

Casseroll. Truly one hot dish.

 Casseroll Single (complete)

Simple and to the point, Casseroll Single gets you where you want to go with singlespeed gearing. A singlespeed road bike you say? Yup. We’re talking one gear that you pedal fast or slow, up hills and down, and all around town.

Casseroll Single starts out with our extremely versatile Casseroll frameset. Crafted of Salsa Classico CroMoly, the frameset provides the resilient feel that steel is famous for. It feels good while you ride it!

Designed around long reach brakes, the frameset allows you to run nice large road tires: 700c x 37mm without fenders and 700c x 32mm with full fenders. Big tires may add some weight, but we feel the extra comfort is well worth it while riding on rough roads or well-worn paths.

Our partially polished, stainless steel, forward-entry horizontal dropouts make for easy chain tensioning. Interested in running fixed? Flip-flop the rear Surly New hub and add a track cog. Finishing touches include fender and rear rack mount braze-ons, and a pump peg.

Fine, functional parts like Surly New hubs laced to Salsa Delgado Cross rims, long-reach Tektro 521 AG brakes R20 brake levers, Sugino RD2 singlespeed crankset with 48T ring, and Continental Contact 37mm tires keep you rolling. The WTB Silverado Race saddle with Salsa embroidery, Salsa Moto Ace Short & Shallow bars, and painted-to-match Salsa CroMoto stem top it off.

Casseroll Single is all about riding while not fretting over what gear you’re in. Just roll up those pants cuffs, spin those pedals, and go somewhere. Enjoy the simple life, try riding single.

Casseroll Single. Getting the job done…simply.

La Cruz (complete)

La Cruz is your ticket to the mixed bag world of pavement and dirt…dirt and pavement. A fine cyclocross steed: race it if you like, but ride it you must. There’s not much better than riding a skinny tire off-road!

The frameset is crafted of True Temper OX Platinum. Its disc brake only design is clean and elegant and balances form and function.

Image

La Cruz Complete features a host of deserving components. Shimano 105 10-speed STI brake/shift levers, front and rear derailleurs, chain and cassette are driven by TruVativ’s Elita 39T/48T crankset. Avid BB-7 mechanical disc brakes providing generous stopping power. Panaracer CrossBlaster tires keep you hooked up while the WTB Rocket V Race saddle with Salsa embroidery provides comfort and style.

Sweet Salsa parts top it all off. The painted-to-match CroMoto stem and polished silver Moto Ace Bell Lap bar are as functional as they are good looking. Delgado 29’er Race rims (laced to Shimano XT hubs) are lightweight but durable.

Throw down at the weekend’s grassroots ‘cross race. Or hit that singletrack shortcut between sections of pavement on the morning commute. Spin a skinny tire'd signature in the dirt.

La Cruz Complete. The 700c version of a split personality.

El Mariachi (complete)

29’ers may be all the rage, but in our humble opinion, this is far from a ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ type trend. Big wheels smooth out the trail surface, offer gobs of traction, and roll like there is no tomorrow.

Our El Mariachi Complete is a great bike value using a versatile frameset. Start with our stock 1 x 9 build and we guarantee you’ll enjoy the ride.

The El Mariachi frameset is crafted of True Temper OX Platinum tubing and uses a Bushnell eccentric bottom bracket. As a 29’er, its larger wheels smooth out the bumps and offer a premium in traction. The geometry is dialed, providing excellent handling and maneuverability in the woods. El Mariachi rides as a mountain bike should and not like some oversized circus freak (nothing against circus freaks, mind you).

Image

While we’ve spec’d the bike as a 9-speed, its eccentric bottom bracket lets you convert to a singlespeed setup with ease. El Mariachi delivers versatility, but we encourage you to give our 1 x 9 drivetrain a shot first. It works for us and we believe it will work for you.

Our matching CroMoto Grande fork delivers sure tracking while its True Temper OX Platinum construction soaks up the harsh stuff. A rigid fork on a 29’er keeps the weight down while letting the wheels smooth out the terrain.

The selected build is a no-compromise list of parts that work. SRAM’s X.9 shifter and rear derailleur deliver crisp, clean shifting. FSA’s V-Drive crankset uses a polycarbonate bashguard to keep its single 32-tooth chainring intact. Avid FR-5 brake levers and BB-7 mechanical disc brakes offer simple setup, excellent performance, and minimal maintenance. A WTB Rocket V Race saddle with Salsa embroidery keeps the hindquarters both happy and stylish while WTB WeirWolf LT 2.55" tires deliver traction and bump absorption on the trail.

We top all this off with a bunch of Salsa details that are often overlooked by the larger bike companies. Our Pepperjack grips and Pro Moto 11 degree flat bar give your hands the perfect perch. The Shaft seatpost makes saddle adjustments a cinch, while the Semi 29’er Disc rims (laced to Shimano XT hubs) fill out those tires nicely. A painted-to-match CroMoto SUL stem, Flip-Offs skewers, and a Lip-Lock seat collar are the icing on the cake. Can you say ‘Pimp my ride’?

El Mariachi Complete. Not just bigger. Better.

Ala Carte (complete)

In a world filled with nanotechnology, miraculous pivot locations, and heaping amounts of travel, the Ala Carte is a reminder that ‘newer’ doesn’t always mean ‘better’, and that steel is still real.

The Ala Carte’s True Temper OX Platinum frame is lovingly paired with our suspension corrected CroMoto fork. The frameset presents a clean profile with its disc brake only construction.

The balanced Salsa geometry lends itself equally to climbing and descending while the steel tubing provides the durability and ride quality it’s famous for. The CroMoto fork is well mannered and provides a surprising amount of trail dampening. The young pups in the audience might not know it, but everybody used to ride rigid!

Image

Our choice pick of parts makes the Ala Carte Complete an extremely functional value. SRAM’s X.9 shifters, rear derailleur, and X.7 front derailleur work with FSA’s V-Drive crankset to deliver positive shifting. Avid’s FR-5 brake levers and BB-7 mechanical disc brakes provide plenty of well-modulated stopping power. The WTB Rocket V Race saddle with Salsa embroidery provides comfort while the WTB ExiWolf 2.3" tires hook up in the dirt.

Pile some Salsa goodness on top of that for a little distinction from the masses. The painted-to-match CroMoto stem is as easy on the eyes as the Pepperjack grips and Moto Ace riser bar are on the hands. The Lip-Lock seat collar, and the Shaft seatpost add both function and class. Semi Disc rims (laced to Shimano XT hubs) keep your wheels spinning true.

So whether you’re a retrogrouch or someone who just likes to keep things simple, functional, and realistic, the Ala Carte stands as a contemporary tribute to mountain biking’s historic past.

Ala Carte Complete. A classic ride with classic good looks.
