 Dirt Works riders had a great day out the recent 2008 Highland Fling.
In the 100 MILE Fling': (160 klms) Team BMC's Jason English came 2nd with a time of 7.34 and Dirt Works own Pat Howard stomped home to 3rd place with a time of 8.02.
Team Ellsworth rider Jason Dreggs, Team KHS rider Craig Armour and Dirt Works General manager Mark Sangkuhl all put in valliant efforts, but all three unfortunately just missed the cut-off time.
The 100 klm "full fling" saw Team BMC's Charlton Durie place 9th in 4.37, David Rome (riding a cyclocross bike) in 7.39, Rob Parbery (also on a crosser') 7.45 and Joey Rumbold in 8.05.
Dirt Works new warranty manager Jeff Rooney attacked the Half Fling in a time of 3.01, while Frank Rome (yes... Dave Romes dad) rocked in at 3.58.
Congrats to all that entered. More info' can be found here.

 Jason English wins (another) 24hour event. At the recent Scott 24hour at Canberra, Jason English stormed home with an amazing 399klms in under 24hours.
I'll let Jason tell it in his own words though...
"As promised another weekend, another race. This time it was at Canberra against some of the best 24hr riders in the World.
My preparation wasn't ideal for the race as I had sore legs for the whole week from the previous 6 hour. As we were traveling down the day before, my carbo - loading was made up of meat pies and sald bits and pieces and I could tell after a few hours! "

 Dirt Works is proud to announce that we are soon to be the authorised agents in Australia for Push Industries. Darren Murphy of Push and Dirt Works have a long history and the two are a natural fit.
Push have gained a deserved reputation as the magic workers of bicycle suspension. Send them an off-the-shelf product and they'll customise it for you using their own proprietry internals to suit your own riding style and needs. However until this partnership, that simply wasn't an option for Australian riders.
Push currently perform work on Rockshox, Fox and Marzocchi rear shocks and Rockshox and Fox forks. Stay tuned and we'll be advising when we're ready to start "Pushing" your forks and shocks.

We are excited to announce that the inaugural BMC Mountains To Beach will take place from 1-7 March 2009.
Imagine a week of mountain biking, a week of racing, that will take you from the highest mountains in Australia, across snowgum lined plains, down along rainforest lined creeks and out to finish with your wheels in the sand and surf. Snaking singletrack, 'wind through the helmet' downhills, challenging uphills and some of the most varied scenery you could want.
The BMC Mountains To Beach is a 'tour' style event. Entrants, solo or pairs, will ride some 400km on a journey from the mountains to the beach, from Thredbo in the Snowy Mountains to Narooma on the South Coast of NSW. The majority of the riding will be in race stages that will test the full range of mountain biking skills - uphill, downhill, cross country, marathon, riding under lights. There will even be a short navigation stage and the potential of a task or two along the way to test riders mental faciltities! Whilst timed race stages will range in length from 5km to over 100km, there will also be a number of non timed, non race cruising stages along the way.
Further details for the BMC Mountains To Beach is available at www.wildhorizons.com.au.

 Dirt Works is proud to announce that we now represent Xtracycle. The North Californian company is one of the highest profile bike-ridin' activist / environmentalist / concerned human-being companies in the world. The Xtracycle or Free Radical as it is known, acts like a bike but works like a truck.
The FreeRadical comes with everything needed for seamlessly adding a boot and a backseat to your bicycle. It is an attachment for your bicycle that deftly shifts your rear wheel back 15 inches and transforms your existing bike into a Sport Utility Bicycle.
Imagine your favourite bike with the rear wheel stretched out behind the seat, a big, stable platform for a load or a passenger, and elegant saddlebags on either side that are expandable when you need them and are cleanly out of the way when you don't. Best of all, your bike is still lightweight and fast, and because the load is centred between your two wheels, the whole package handles with ease. Suddenly you have much less need or desire to drive around town for your errands.

 Go ahead and drop your seat a couple of inches for that technical section. Then raise it up an inch for that long climb. Lower it just slightly for that great winding tree section, then pop it right back up without even losing your momentum. The hydraulic action of the Joplin seatpost allows you to instantly adjust seat height, and therefore your riding position, opening up a new world of riding. Adjust your seat height without stopping, or even slowing down, and to any height within a range of 3".
Now, there’s no penalty for adjusting the seat to the perfect spot for the terrain you’re on, and that spices up every ride! The Joplin R comes with a nifty remote joystick that mounts to your handlebars. Now neither hand has to leave the bars to move the seat. And the cool part is, the joystick can mount on top of the bar, on the bottom, in the middle… wherever makes sense for your own setup.
Plus you can move the joystick in any direction to activate the post. The Joplin is also available with a lever that sits under the nose of your saddle. 454g. • 382mm: 30.9 and 31.6mm.

 Over the fall and winter months the number one inquiry Brian Lopes has been receiving from fans, industry mags and mountain bike enthusiasts alike has been; "What bike will you be riding for 2008?"
With over 30 plus years of experience combined in racing, riding and product development, Brian has built a solid reputation and insists on riding nothing but the best products available. So naturally this was a question that he took very seriously!
After talks with several potential bike partners, his search lead him to Ibis Cycles. This storied boutique brand has a long heritage dating back to the beginnings of modern mountain biking. Ibis was founded by Mountain Bike Hall of Fame inductee Scot (A.K.A. "Chuck Ibis") Nicol. Most recently Ibis is best known for their gorgeous sculptural carbon fiber frames and integration of the infamous "dw-link" into its Mojo Carbon and Mojo SL mountain bikes. if you have been fortunate enough to ride one, you probably have been converted into an IBIS fan too.
Brian and Ibis will be working together in the coming years to develop lots of new Ibis products and to attract a much wider audience to the Ibis brand.

 BMC and Dirt Works Australia are pleased to report the recent success of Team BMC Australia (Gordon Street Cycles) rider Jason English who won the National title at the Australian 24 Hour Solo Championships, held at Majura Pines, Canberra on 22nd & 23rd of March. Jason won by a convincing margin, riding a total of 422km, and will be heading to the Solo World Championship in Canada in July as a strong contender.
At the same race, Troy Bailey of Team BMC Australia (Kaos Custom Bikes) rode an extremely strong race to stay in the top 5 until the early hours of the morning, unfortunately Troy had to abandon after a hard spill left him seeing double.
Both riders rode their brand new 2008 BMC Trail Fox 01 bikes, providing them with the light-weight and efficiency of a race bike and the comfort of a 5" trail bike. They were supported by BMC team mate Brian Price in the pits. We look forward to seeing them both tear it up with the world’s best at the 24 hour Solo World Championship on 26th & 27th July in Alberta.
Team BMC Australia is co-sponsored by: Hayes Disc Brakes, DT Swiss shocks, hubs and spokes, Ritchey cockpits and tyres, Stan's No Tubes rims, Crank Brothers pedals, Syncros tyres and cockpits and Wheelcraft.

The answer is neither... and both. Either way. Eastern's new Traildiggers hit the mark.
Available in both 24" ($649) and 26" ($699) models they bring back memories of 24 and 26" ccruisers in the early 80's.

 After a full year of backorders and waiting... we now have stock (yes... in the building) of the amazing Ibis Mojo Carbon. Currently we have small, medium, large and extra large in the naked carbon finish. Plus both orange and green in medium and large.
When designing the Mojo Carbon, Ibis realised the need for a suspension design which took full advantage of technological advances in the material. So they turned to suspension genius Dave Weagle for help and licensed the dw*link.
Offering 5.5" of plush, efficient rear wheel travel, the Mojo Carbon can be built up as an epic/race bike or as one "that is very capable of putting you into situations where you maybe should not venture."
The Mojo Carbon is available as a frame only, or in 4 complete builds.

  We're just received our first shipment of Stan's ZTR rims. You're probably wondering what makes these rims so special? (apart from their amazing light weight)
Every other rim in the world has a bead hook. ZTR rims do not. This new rim design eliminates the bead hook and move the sidewall of the rim down by 2-3mm. This in turn reduces the weight of the rim. Some of this material can be used in the centre part of the rim making it stronger and stiffer. In addition, the curve of the rim sidewall is the same shape as the bead of the tire so they fit together like a ball and socket joint. This design helps to reduce the strain on the tire bead while creating a tighter seal.
ZTR Olympic @ 367g (we didn't believe it either, so we weighed them ourselves) they are 32 hole, 23mm wide, 26", annodised black and disc only.
ZTR 355, 32 hole, 24.4mm wide, anno' black, (even the sidewalls) and available in both 26" and 29er.
All available from your local Dirt Works dealer.

  What will you use your Cross-Check for? A tourer, perhaps a commuter, an everyday “do-it-all” ride... or as the name suggests, a cyclocross bike. It doesn’t matter because the Cross-Check will handle it all with ease.
A cyclocross bike by category, the Cross-Check has proven itself over and over in the real world, on the streets, in the dirt, through muck and sleet, blazing sun and dark of night, over exhilarating trails, through hectic traffic and long stretches of uninterrupted back road boredom. Are we serious? Absolutely. People have written us, time and again, telling us how they use it as their commuter, their around-towner, their touring bike; and each time, invariably, they compliment its handling, comfort, and durability.

FirstBIKE was introduced to Australia in 2005 and has become
extremely popular amongst parents (and grandparents!) seeking that
different, developmentally beneficial, and memorable toy for their
little one. FirstBIKE now sports a brake that's custom-designed for
small hands, and as of late 2007, FirstBIKE is now also available in pink. Far more than a toy... FirstBike is a genuine learning aid that is made in Germany.
FirstBIKE is the perfect training bike for developing your
child's sense of balance and motor skills. It is the ideal companion
for walks and discovery journeys, because already young children can
keep up with their parents' walking speed without any trouble.
FirstBIKE's design features:
1) a low centre of gravity (compared with pedal bikes that require pedal clearance);
2) low weight for easy transport & handling;
3) a built-in steering stop limits the sideways rotation of the handlebars & fork, so little fingers don't get crushed;
4) a rear drum brake operated by a handlebar-mounted lever (which
2-year-olds don't have the strength to use, but older children can);
5) tool-free adjustable seat height, so the bike grows with your child;
6) FirstBIKE lets children learn to balance on 2 wheels in a gradual and
non-threatening way, without picking up poor balance habits from
training wheels. So when they get their first pedal bike, they already
know how to balance on 2 wheels and just have to learn to pedal.
7) high-quality, smooth-rolling and durable cartridge bearings in the
hubs, versus plain bushings or rough cup/cone bearings in typical
children's bikes.
A realistic guideline for the minimum age is that: 1) the child can
walk; and 2) is tall enough to comfortably straddle the bike.
On the solid-tyre FirstBike "Street Innovation" with blue or pink
frame & black seat/grips, the minimum seat height is 36 centimetres
from the ground, with a "usable" standover height of about 38-40cm.
The other model, the FirstBike "Cross Innovation" with grey or
pink frame & red seat/grips, has a taller standover height (by an
extra 2cm or so) because of its higher-profile, inflatable tyres. The
suggested retail price is $299.
The optional FirstBIKE lowering kit (RRP $39) reduces the minimum ride height by about 4cm.
